Day
6 & 7
Tarraluoppal - Tuoddar
11 km
The Padjelanta highland is a different experience all together compared
with the previous days.
Today will start with a 300 m ascent up to the
Padjelanta tableland. Little by little, the higher we get, the surrounding
landscape changes its character. The crowberries, playing an important
part of the scenery for so long, disappear and give way to an even
more barren landscape with grassy fields. The valley is far below,
the view opens up and we can see high peaks all around us.
The trail is again very easy to hike. We walk past numerous small
lakes and up and down on low hills, and many of the birds and plants
we encounter are new acquaintances. There will be snow left on the
ground and some lake shores are still covered with ice. Now we can
also expect to see reindeers.
If the mosquitoes were a nuisance down in the valley, that problem
should be a little bit more tolerable up here. There could be some
neuropters flying in our faces by the lakes, but compared with mosquitoes
and blackflies that's not so bad.
On day 7, you can make day trips in the area. Try to catch alpine
char in the lakes, botanize, bird watching or just take it easy.
Your guide will of course be available all day as usual.
Otherwise, to make a walk by yourself would be a special experience,
I believe. And it doesn't have to be far away from the cabins. Just
far enough for you to feel that you are alone. To have a personal
experience like this is different from what can be experienced when
you are a part of a group. It is your personal connection to nature
and life. A reconnection to something deep and basic.
