Assorted scenes from today's hike between Njunjes and Tarrekaise.
Basseuksa, an ancient Saami sacrificial ground.
The "door" is clearly visible from the trail and it
doesn't take very long to get there. There are some steep parts
towards the end but no major difficulties. If you want to go all
the way and touch the wall, you need to cross some wet and slippery
stones at the very end. The door may not look too impressive in
this picture, but it is actually about 30 m high. Close to the
sacrificial ground is a small waterfall, and the ravine is botanically
interesting. The cracks in the wall resemble something. Can you
make it out?
To see it all from a distance sure gives a different perspective!
Sitting on a hillside, even if only 100 meters up from the trail,
not only opens up the scenery but possibly also your mind. Our
ordinary life down in the valley is now a part of a different
reality. From up here we can see the whole picture and understand
everything. The appearance of Tarra river, the meaning of life
and everything.
What a difference it can make!
Can you see the hiker walking in the middle of the picture? What
could he be thinking about?
Ptarmigan. This one survived the hunters that gather in the mountains
during the winter season.
One of few photographs of birds I have on this site. Not because
there are no birds along this trip but because my camera is not
suited for that kind of work.
Not an easy place to put up a tent even it might look like it,
but the scenery makes it worthwhile to try. This tent is not very
well stretched and I am ashamed to say that I am responsible for
this one.
