A center for arriving and departing hikers.
It stands right by the Virihaure-lake and the summerhouses of Saami
reindeer herdsmen.
In Staloluokta you can buy smoked Arctic
char and home baked thin bread from some of the families. There
are also two stores, a sauna, a scheduled daily helicopter service
to Kvikkjokk, and a church.
A sermon is held first sunday in July in
the round, turf roofed church. The language used is the local
Saami dialect, lule-saami, and even if we don't understand a
word it could still be an interesting experience to sit in the
smoke filled room. No dry eyes to be seen when the sermon is
finished.
