Påssustjåkka
This peak is really quite easily climbed from the Kings Trail,
but even so, it is not a sunday stroll in the park. The round trip
will take a whole day and it comes with some physical effort.
Påssustjåkka can be climbed as a part of the Kings
Trail all inclusive package. We will reach the area day 4, when
we hike between Alesjaure and Tjäktja.

Our climb from the trail has just started and we can see the peak
6 km in front of us, and 1000 meters up.

We will arrive into this picture from the right (walking down in
the valley), climb up to the small lake 100 meters above, and from
there continue up towards the left upper corner. From the lake the
remaining effort is 3 km and 700 meters of elevation.

A collapsed snow bridge over the brook that comes down from the
small lake. The melting and cracking snow, and stones below it,
can create beautiful pieces of art. Here is more photos of natural
snow-art from the same place.

Our "trail". Stones and boulders of different sizes, and
you can never be 100 percent sure which ones are going to move and
which ones don't. Some of the bigger ones can really make your heart
jump if you are not prepared that the boulder might swing. Let's
be careful out here.
Not our goal, but still an impressive looking piece of stone. The
peak is a sneak preview of the alpine scenery that unfolds itself
more and more the higher we get.

One wouldn't expect to see flowers in a place like this, but Glacial
buttercups happily prove our prejudice wrong. This mountain doesn't
offer very good conditions for the plant life, and except for moss,
Glacial buttercups are about the only plants we can expect to encounter.
Would you fancy some more
photographs of these beauties?

Some small sections of the slope are a little bit easier to climb,
and it can be worthwhile to look for these greener parts instead
of going in a straight line towards the peak. These parts can be
such a relief.

Almost there now!

West Bossos glacier to our right. And now you can see the whole
alpine scenery with numerous glaciers and snow covered peaks extend
towards the south. Don't forget to have a look at the panorama
photos from the peak.

Visttasvaggi-valley 1200 meters below us. The rounded shape to the
right is two kilometers away.

An old glacier valley, high between the double peaks of Bogicohkka.

Siehtagas-glacier towards south-east.
Vassacorru, Vassanjtunnji, Jorbaoaivi, Njuovccagaskkat...
A string of peaks with strange, mysterious sounding names.

To walk in the white-birch forest and willow shrubbery along the
Visttasjohka-river below, would probably be an unpleasant mosquito
infested experience, but seen from 1200 meters above, it's just
pure beauty.

Can you see the small shaded area in the middle of the picture?
About 7 km away? That is where we have Alisvaggi-valley and the
Kings Trail.
Other places nearby Unna
Visttasvaggi, a side valley close to the Kings Trail. Unna
Visttascohkka, a four kilometer long table mountain.
Gungarrlehppi, paternoster lakes
below a glacier and plenty of flowers.
