Garddenvarri
The Kings Trail goes right by this mountain and it would be a
pity to miss the flowering slopes. And it is not very hard to climb
all the way to the peak either.
Garddenvarri can be visited as a part of the Kings
Trail all inclusive package. We'll reach the area day 3, when
we hike between Abiskojaure and Alesjaure.

Looking very impressive, and like a mission impossible for us ordinary
hikers, it stands there defiantly showing up its impenetrable north
face. But the features are much softer on the other side and offer
no hardship besides the extra physical activity.

The trail is way below us now. The two peaks in the background are
Giron (1543 m) to the left, and Cuamohas (1688 m) at the right upper
corner. The Kieron cabins are visible on the slope in the middle,
almost at the point of the "triangle" to the left.

Globeflowers and cinquefoils. The slopes of Garddenvarri are rich
in arctic and other species of flowers. Many of our fellow hikers
actually never really realize the splendor they are missing when they
hurry between cabins on tight schedules.

Abiskojaure cabins are 4 km away and 600 meters below us, right where
the river connects to the lake. If you look at the mountain on the
other side of the lake, you can see how the tree line follow the 700
meter line quite nicely.

Facing south, and if you know where to look, you can see the Alesjaure
cabins, 14 kilometers away. The tiny, light dot at the far end of
the lake.

So much space and wide views that even the most narrow minded persons
can't help but to get some cracks.

Arctic circle or equator? Sometimes the mountains look so green the
scenery resembles photos from Africa. Could that be the reason I
sometimes get the feeling of returning home?
