The river that flow thru central Kyoto. When you reach the point where you just can't breed any more toxic waste from the heavy traffic, or all the noise is too much, just walk down to the river and everything will feel much better. It is possible to walk all the way up to the mountains on the roads along Kamogawa. Three species of heron live of the river, as does ducks (The Duck River), kingfishers, and other birds. The water is clean enough for the fish to survive, and for the people to catch it. Most of the time the water level is quite low, and it is possible to cross to the other side using stones put there for the purpose, but during the rainy season there is nothing mellow about it. Between the Sanjo and Shijo streets is a popular place for young couples to sit together. Under the bridges are good places for the homeless to stay.
